My name is Mark Stephens and I live with my wife Julie (and our 2 cats, Amber and Jade) in the beautiful county of Herefordshire, in the UK.

I’m like many people of my age (I’m in my fifties) who reached a certain stage in their life and began to think – am I really enjoying my life, am I doing enough of the things I want to be doing, or I am just in the ‘rat race’? By the way this doesn’t have to happen to you at 50 something – for many people, fortunately for them, it happens much earlier!

My life was fairly typical, after all I’m just a normal bloke! I had worked in a number of different industries and different roles and gradually ‘worked my way up the ladder’ – that’s what we’re conditioned to do, right?

Well I Did It!

I did what I was supposed to do. I climbed the ladder. I was a Company Director, earning a six figure income, traveling to all parts of the world, I had great children, a lovely home, nice car,  and yet …… I was unhappy. Why?

Simple – I was working 6 days a week, often 14 hours a day and I’ll be honest with you: my wife was suffering, my children were suffering, my relationships with my friends were suffering – and so was I.

Then it dawned on me – my lifestyle was completely dependent on the hours I worked – in other words I was trading time for money – and as there are only so many hours in a day we are forced to make a choice between how much we earn and how much time we have for the other important things in life.

I Made The Decision To Do Something About It!

Have you heard of people having a ‘light bulb’ moment? This was mine – I realised I had to take control of my life and take responsibility for living the life I wanted. There’s a great saying in the film, The Shawshank Redemption, where Andy DuFresne (pronounced DuFrain?) says “a man had better get busy living or get busy dying”.

So What Did I Do Next?

I started to explore other ways of making a living that would replace my six figure income, while at the same time delivering a better work-life balance – everybody talks about that don’t they, but how many actually do it? We often get trapped by our own circumstances.

I discovered the concept of ‘leverage’ – being able to optimise your use of time and money to generate a massive return, and I came to understand that this is what wealthy people do. In essence they work on their business and not in it.

After researching many options I eventually turned to the world of Internet Marketing and Home based businesses – I felt they offered the opportunity for me to work from home and spend quality time with my family, play some golf, go to the gym, spend time with our friends, enjoy our vacations (uninterrupted!) and yet still allow me to earn a decent income – sounds good, doesn’t it?

Guess What Happened To Me?

Let me tell you – I spent months researching different opportunities, invested in a few  and failed to make a single penny! This was not good but I learned some harsh, but valuable lessons along the way. There is no shortage of people out there promising to make you an ‘overnight success’, offering the latest and greatest ‘make money’ product that produces a six-figure income online, without having to do any work!

Then I Discovered The Truth!

The real truth is there is nearly always something missing that you just have to figure out for yourself – sometimes it’s the most crucial thing. Often you need a certain set of skills BEFORE you can truly put these programs into practice, in spite of what the ‘sales pitch’ says.

As you can probably tell I learned the hard way – with wasted time and cash – that you can be drained of money, motivation, energy and belief if you invest in many of these programs.

Having said all that (I’ve fallen off my soapbox now!) there was some good stuff on my journey.

What Did I Learn?

I learned the basic rules you must follow when selecting any home-based Internet business; you must find a proven process, find something you are passionate about and – get some help!

I came across the Law of Attraction, discovered some truly inspirational people, found some great books for self-development – even though I had always been cynical about this type of ‘stuff’ but it really does work!

Most importantly that, sometimes painful, learning process enabled me to find a legitimate Internet business model, to generate a automated six figure income online, that I liked and trusted and that could enable me to live life the way I wanted to .

I also found someone who would help me every step of the way - and that took away a lot of my fear and hesitation!

What I can tell you now is that the Internet is a great place to do business providing you know what you are doing, you are consistent in your effort, you focus on one thing at a time – and you get the right sort of help!

The real benefit of mastering marketing via the Internet is so huge it can make your heart beat faster – no one else controls your life, you cannot be laid off, you can make as much money as you choose to and you can generate real leverage in your life to do the things you are really passionate about.

Was It Scary?

You bet it was! The prospect of change is frightening to most of us. Cast your mind back to when you first went to a new school, started a new job, moved home and had to make new friends and so on – do you remember how that made you feel? As human beings we like to stay in our own comfort zones because what we know makes us feel safe – whether it’s good, bad or indifferent!

Here Are Some Of The Things I Went Through

• Am I doing the ‘right thing’ – my family and friends told me I would be crazy to consider changing my job?
• Should I just ‘stay put and get on with it’? If I do this will anything change for the better?
• Am I too old to change? I’m sure you’ve heard the saying you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
• What happens if I fail?
• How will I know what’s right for me, how will I assess the risks?

Most of us don’t like to take risks but here’s something I learned along the way that I believe to be 100% true:

You are where you are today because of the way you think and act and what you believe. To change where you are you MUST change your thoughts, actions and beliefs.
